La Puerta Abierta

La Puerta Abierta After-School Program was founded in 1988 by St. John’s Episcopal Church to respond to the influx of new immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries to Union City.

Recognizing the need for a safe place for students from low-income Hispanic families during after-school hours, the Church initiated a bilingual program to provide after-school services, including help with homework, reading, fitness activities, positive recreational activities, and arts/crafts projects. Each day children are given a nutritional snack upon arrival.

In 2011, La Puerta Abierta came under the management of the All Saints Community Service and Development Corporation, and is now a sister program of the Jubilee Center.

La Puerta Abierta operates Monday through Friday from 3 PM until 6 PM.
